Gulliver

From Big Sister Minecraft Server
Jump to: navigation, search

The Gulliver mod, made by Uncle Mion, is based upon the book Gulliver's Travels, in which the protagonist, Gulliver, finds himself shipwrecked on an island filled with tiny people, called the Lilliputians. The mod allows for players and mobs to be resized between the scale of 1/8th of normal size to 8 times normal size. The different sizes have different abilities and mechanics. This mod was used on the Big Sister server from its birth in 2013 to July 3, 2017. The mod has not been updated since it updated to Minecraft 1.6.4, leading to the server moving away from it in the July 3, 2017 Update.

Resizing[edit | edit source]

Players could resize themselves and mobs through various methods. The basic survival method was to use potions of embiggening or ensmallening, made with red and brown mushrooms respectively. These could change sizes by scales of 2 or 8 depending on the level of the potion. If a certain config option was enabled, dyes could also be used to change size. Each purple dye would double the size of the player holding it, while each cyan dye would half it. Dyed sheep and wolves with dyed collars of these colors would also receive these effects. Commands could be used to set the size of players and mobs, or the use of hotkeys (Default: R for double, F for half). Pressing a hotkey while pointing at a mob with a stick would apply that effect to the mob instead.

Giants[edit | edit source]

Players on the larger scale had special abilities and properties. At the higher end, players could jump and destroy certain blocks below their feet. Potion effects would be weaker and last a shorter time on players of larger sizes. Damage dealt would be increased and damage received would be decreased, giants would also take no damage from cactus. Larger players could walk through leaves, which were often used for giant doors on houses. Giant players would break more blocks at a time and have a greater reach. Tools used by larger players would have their durability lowered quickly.

Tinies[edit | edit source]

Players on the smaller scale also had special attributes. Smaller players could use certain items for extra mobility. Paper could be used as a hang glider. A fishing rod could be used as a grappling hook. Lily pads could be used to ride across water, as tinies could not steer a boat. Slimeballs could be used to climb up any surface, however some surfaces were innately climbable (wool, leaves, etc.). Cactus could be climbed normally by tiny players, and would not cause any damage. Tiny players would take damage from roses, and at the smallest size, could drown in the rain. At the smallest size, a lily pad could be used as an umbrella. Damage received would be increased, and damage dealt would be decreased. Potion effects would be stronger and last a longer time. Tinies could walk along tripwire.

Size Interactions[edit | edit source]

Players of different sizes could interact in different ways. Players who were much larger than another could pick up, throw, or put tinies on their shoulder. Tinies could use string to climb onto a larger player's shoulder or back. Larger players could deal damage by walking over smaller players.

Big Sister[edit | edit source]

All of the above functions were used on the server during its time using Gulliver. Glasgrow was a town designed specifically for players at eight times normal size, while towns such as Micropolis and Insania were designed for players on the smaller scale. Role playing was popular at locations such as Gulliver Labs, where different sizes were used for the story. The server had the dye resizing disabled, but players were free to use any of the resize stations around the server, with the main one being next to the Spawnington TP Hub in Spawnington.
